INTERMEDIATE SEWING COURSE DESCRIPTION
Summary:
10-week course, 3hrs per week. Saturday afternoons 12-3pm. $380. Starts 26th Nov.2011
Description:
Already know your way around a sewing machine? Completed a couple sewing pojects and feeling confident in your budding abilities? Eager to improve on your skills and continue learning professional garment-making?
Then Welcome to No Formula’s Intermediate sewing course!
As with the beginner’s sewing course, over 10 weeks, you will be instructed by designer Sonja Maus, creative mind behind successful Gold Coast eco-womenswear label, No Formula.
You will be creating a No Formula designer garment. Your choice of either a jersey dress, or a woven semi-fitted dress. Create a designer style for yourself or as a gift, and learn the professional techniques needed to do it!
You will re-visit basic and essential cutting and sewing techniques, such as sewing darts, invisible zippers, and waistbands, but also discover more advanced skills such as pleats, tabs, gathering, linings, and professional finishings!
You will learn how to create your garment first on calico, then with a fabric of your own choice. Sonja will provide the calico for your first practice garment, then she will advise you on what type of fabric you will need to create the actual garment.
You will be provided patterns from which to work, as well as some sewing instruments, calico fabric, new sewing machines, overlockers, and iron & board.
The first 5 weeks of the course you will be working on calico fabric to complete your ‘practice’ garment. Once finished, you can start making a dress with your choice of fabric, in a style of your preference to finish professionally and proudly show off to your friends and family!
Sonja will keep the classes sizes small so you receive as much one-on-one mentoring, instruction, and tutorship as possible. You will find yourself with enough time to work at your own pace and spend time with Sonja on anything you need extra time and help with. Each class is 3 hours, and with classes four days a week, at a variety of times, you will be able to find the right one to fit into your schedule!
The classes are held in a new, bright, spacious and clean venue, with new machines and instruments.
Tea, coffee and light snacks are provided during each class. If however, you are missing a meal during these classes, please feel free to bring your own food and drink, as there will be a 10 minute tea-break in each class.
Although sewing instruments are provided, and there is a ‘sewing kit’ of spares, please bring the following items with you:
-Scissors
-basic sewing kit
-handsewing needles
-pins
-tape measure
-note pad
If you have your own sewing machine with which you are already comfortable using, please feel free to bring it!
An added bonus:
