December 2011: Feed the Need
It’s December, and the Christmas Holidays are almost upon us!
Christmas holidays have always been my favourite time of year. Yes, I get caught up in the stress of buying Christmas presents, working long hours finishing off as much work as I can before the holidays start, worrying about my finances, and wondering how much Christmas baking to do! But amidst all that, there’s always the anticipation of having relaxing hours spent with loved ones, not having to worry about all that work that came before the start of the holidays.
And I love the start of the New Year. After what will have hopefully been a few days of rest, relaxation, quality time spent with friends and family, sharing peace, joy, laughs and love, I feel re-energized, positive and ready to take the new year head-on as a challenge to a fresh, positive start.
There are so many people, individuals and families alike, who aren’t able to have relaxing, stress-free holidays and able to look to the new year with optimism.
So many are doing it tough now and can’t afford the luxuries of have a Christmas holiday, splurging on presents and grand dinners.
Christmas is such a special time, I feel everyone should be able to enjoy as much as I, my friends, and my families do.
This Month, No Formula is supporting a local charity, helping Gold Coast families in need. So, to help bring a little festive joy of the season to families doing it tough, NO FORMULA is donating 5% of all December sales to ‘Feed the Need’.
Feed the Need is a Gold Coast-based Charity preparing Christmas hampers for local families.

When you buy a new garment from No Formula, and the fits needs to be tweaked to be just right for you, Sonja the designer will offer free alterations included in the price of your purchase.
In keeping with the sustainability ethos, No Formula encourages you to extend the life of your garment so that less wastage is produced from your wardrobe! So, these are also services provided by No Formula:
Alterations for pre-loved garments
Whether you have a No Formula garment, or a garment from any other label, Sonja provides alteration services to make your garments fit perfectly!
Repairs for new or pre-loved garments
Again, this service is for any label, so that you can keep loving your well-worn or damaged garments.
Upgrades/Upcycling for pre-loved garments
Have a favourite outfit that you’ve worn to death, or that is a bit outdated & needs to be updated to this year’s trends? Have a vintage item that needs to be updated, or some vintage fabric that needs to be used to create a new garment? Sonja will discuss a plan of action with you to restore, re-create and re-style with what you’ve got!
*Sonja will charge a small fee for these services, to cover overhead costs, but there will be no charge for profit as the work will be done to ensure the progress of sustainable fashion!

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
A minimum non-refundable deposit of 50% of the course fee you have selected, is required to both enroll and to secure a position in the course selected, and must accompany this form. The course minimum deposit cannot be refunded if you change your mind!
For the group courses, Minimum class numbers apply. In the case that minimum student numbers are not secured before your selected course date, your deposit will be refunded in full if that course is then cancelled or postponed.
Balance of the course fees are due 3 business working days before the start date of the course. Payment can be made by: Money order, Cash, or Online Transfer.
If you are unable to attend the course or change your mind, cancellations are accepted within 3 business working days. You will not be required to pay the balance on the course fee. If you have already paid the balance, it will be refunded to you, if you have given at least 3 business working days’ notice. If you give less than 3 business working days’ cancellation notice, your balance payment will not be refunded. Your minimum $150 deposit will not be refunded.

Sonja Maus reserves the right to terminate the student’s enrollment at any time for non-payment or late-payment, failure to comply with the course and with the building’s rules and regulations, or for conduct deemed inappropriate.
Consumption of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited at the course venue, before, during or after courses. Refreshments, snacks, tea and coffee will be provided each week!

ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN
On Movember 1st, guys register at Movember.com with a clean-shaven face and then for the rest of the month, these selfless and generous men, known as Mo Bros, groom, trim and wax their way into the annals of fine moustachery. Supported by the women in their lives, Mo Sistas, Movember Mo Bros raise funds by seeking out sponsorship for their Mo growing efforts.
Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November and through their actions and words raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.
At the end of the month, Mo Bros and their female supporters (known as Mo Sistas) celebrate their gallantry and valor by either throwing their own Movember party or attending one of the infamous Gala Partés held around the world by Movember, for Movember.

The funds raised in Australia support equally the two biggest health issues men face – prostate cancer and depression. The funds raised are directed to programs run directly by Movember and our men’s health partners, the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue: the national depression initiative. Together, the three channels work together to ensure that Movember funds are supporting a broad range of innovative, world-class programs in line with our strategic goals, in the areas of awareness and education, survivorship and research.

October 2011: Animal Welfare League of Queensland
Charity of the month for the month of October is the AWL
Animal Welfare League of Queensland
“The AWL has been on the verge of closing down its facilities this year with financial difficulties this year. It’s heartbreaking to think of all the animals that will be affected by a lack of funds available to the AWL.
The economic downturn, natural disasters, low adoptions figures and the high number of surrendered animals is having a severe impact on the Animal Welfare League’s ability to perform to their usual capability.
We are really struggling to keep our shelter doors open, Marketing Manager Brooke Whitney says.
“Most people don’t realise it, but animal rescues, and shelters get hit hard during a tough economy. You have people who have to surrender their animals due to not having the resources to take care of them, far less adoptions due to people not having the funds to afford a pet, and even fewer foster carers and volunteers due to the fact that people are having to work longer hours or more jobs to keep up.
